Nissan EV Home Charging, Made Simple1

Charge your Nissan LEAF or ARIYA at home with its standard charging cable and a household outlet, or add a Level 2 home charger for faster charging.
Level 1 Charging
Standard outlet, zero add-ons

Level 1 is the simplest way to charge a Nissan EV at home. Your LEAF or ARIYA's electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) is its charging cable, and it plugs directly into a standard 3-pin, 120-volt outlet. No extra hardware is needed. The tradeoff is speed, since Level 1 charges more slowly than a dedicated home charger. Review your Owner's Manual for charging steps and safety guidance.2
Level 2 Charging
Faster charging at home

Level 2 uses a dedicated home charger connected to a 240-volt outlet, so it requires equipment beyond the cable included with your EV. The Pulsar Plusâ„¢ Level 2 charger, sold separately and covered below, delivers a much faster charging cycle than Level 1, which suits drivers who put more daily miles on their LEAF or ARIYA.1
How to charge your Nissan EV
without a garage

A garage is optional.

Home charging only needs two things: a power source and a spot to park. Drivers without a garage can have outdoor-rated, weather-sealed charging equipment mounted on the outside of the home.

Renting an apartment or condo? A growing number of residential communities now provide charging units in their parking garages. Your property manager can tell you what's available where you live.
Nissan and Wallboxâ„¢
home charging³

Getting a Wallbox charger installed can be as simple as charging with one.

Through their partnership, Nissan and Wallboxâ„¢ make it easier for Nissan ARIYA and Nissan LEAF owners to set up home charging. Choose a Level 2 home charger on its own, or a charger bundled with home installation.3

Tips for installing your home EV charger
A little planning before installation helps your home charger setup go smoothly.3
Use a professional
Licensed, bonded installers know local regulations and are qualified to work with electrical equipment, and their work usually comes with a guarantee.

Cable
Position the wall charger so the charging cable always has some slack once it's mounted. That keeps tension off the cable and its connections.

240-volt outlet
A home EV charger runs on a 240-volt outlet, the same type many clothes dryers use. If you plan to use an existing 240-volt outlet, confirm it's in a practical spot, installed correctly, and compliant with local regulations. If you need a new one, installation by a qualified technician is highly recommended.³
Location
Think about how you usually park. The charge port on both the Nissan ARIYA and Nissan LEAF sits toward the front of the vehicle, so place your charger where the cable can reach the port without obstruction.

Mounting
Mount the charger to a vertical wall stud, or secure it to the wall with the right mounting anchors.

Remember
  • Only qualified, professional technicians should install your EV home charger
  • Installation must comply with local regulations
  • The charger must be grounded
  • Protect the charger from impacts, moisture, and misuse
  • Home chargers typically have no user-serviceable parts, so always leave repairs to a qualified professional technician

Nissan EV Home Charging FAQs

How do you charge a Nissan LEAF at home?

Plug the LEAF's included charging cable into a standard 120-volt outlet for Level 1 charging, which needs no extra equipment. For faster charging, add a Level 2 home charger that connects to a 240-volt outlet. Level 2 chargers are sold separately.

How do you charge a Nissan ARIYA at home?

The ARIYA uses the same two home charging options. Its standard charging cable works with a household outlet for Level 1, and a compatible Level 2 charger, such as the Pulsar Plusâ„¢, provides a much faster charging cycle through a 240-volt outlet.

Level 1 vs. Level 2 charging: what's the difference?

Level 1 uses the cable that comes with your Nissan EV and a standard 120-volt outlet. It's simple but slower. Level 2 uses a dedicated charger on a 240-volt outlet and charges much faster, but it requires separately purchased equipment and a suitable outlet.

What is a Nissan EVSE?

EVSE stands for electric vehicle supply equipment. For a Nissan EV, it's the charging cable included with the vehicle, used for Level 1 charging from a standard household outlet.

Do I need a professional to install a Nissan EV home charger?

Yes. A home charger should only be installed by qualified, professional technicians who understand local regulations and can make sure the charger is properly grounded. Nissan EV owners can also have the Pulsar Plusâ„¢ installed through COIL, a certified Wallboxâ„¢ subsidiary.
